About FiberCalc
FiberCalc is a free set of knitting, crochet, sewing and quilting calculators, built and maintained by one person: me, Hammad Iqbal.
Why I built it
I kept opening yarn and quilt planners that hid the math, skipped units, or forced an account before a simple skein count. I wanted tools that run entirely in the browser, show the formula, and cite Craft Yarn Council (CYC) standards where those charts actually apply—so you can check my work.
Who I am
Full-stack developer who builds free, in-browser calculators. I maintain FiberCalc as a one-person project: every formula and Craft Yarn Council citation on these pages is checked by me. I am not a professional knitting instructor, pattern designer, or textile engineer.
I am not a professional knitting instructor, pattern designer, quilt judge, or textile engineer, and this site is not one either. What I do is turn published, authoritative sources into calculators that are easy to use, and show exactly which sources each tool uses. Find me on GitHub.
How the tools are made
Every tool lists its formula and its sources near the bottom of the page. Primary references for yarn weight, needle/hook sizes, and body sizing charts are the Craft Yarn Council standards. Quilt and mattress planning pages also point at industry bedding references where relevant. Each page shows the date I last checked those sources. Full details: Methodology.
What this site does not do
- It does not replace a pattern’s tested yardage, gauge, or cutting chart.
- Your project measurements stay in your browser; optional analytics cookies load only after consent.
- It is not affiliated with Craft Yarn Council, yarn brands, or quilt-shop software.
How the site is funded
The site may show Google AdSense ads after approval and may use Google Analytics (GA4) after you accept cookies. There are no affiliate links on tool pages today. See the Privacy Policy for cookie details.
